THE ONLY JAMES JOYCE IRISH PUB IN CALGARY –
LOCATED ON STEPHEN’S AVENUE DOWNTOWN
The James Joyce Story…
Gerard and Anne Curran, immigrants from Ireland, opened The James Joyce in 1997 in the Old Molson Bank Building at 114 – 8th Avenue, Calgary.
Hospitality and authenticity were the key ingredients as they created a home away from home with all of the tastes and feel of a traditional Pub in Ireland. Winning many awards throughout the years for their food, the Currans have worked hard at providing new and innovative menu items while moving with the ever changing landscape of Irish cuisine. Guinness is always the go to drink but the collection of Irish whiskeys is well worth investigating, along with their list of premium crafted beers and cocktails.
Not just a pub, The James Joyce is a mini museum to all things Irish and is filled with artifacts and antiques from many Counties in Ireland and is worth spending some extra time to take everything in.

11:00am – Late NightWas greeted by the owner who is from Ireland and felt like I was in Dublin from the moment I arrived! They pour a proper pint of Guinness and their fish and chips are battered perfectly – all fish with a thin crispy crust. Try their apple kale salad for a healthy side option. My other favorites include Irish potato nachos, Ploughman’s lunch, Irish Stew, and their lamb burger. Highly recommended!

I rarely write reviews or rate venues but this place is simply superb!
First time here and this place is amazing! Everything is great from the ambiance, service, and drinks. The food selection stands out as the menu is quite unique and simply delicious! Would definitely recommend this place to people.

We came here as a first visit on vacation. Really great service – excellent food and a relaxed holiday atmosphere. Will come again. Between us we enjoyed a well “pulled” pint of Guinness & – Irish coffee. My husband had the shepherd’s pie which was served hot and was very tasty. I had a black bean burger – which had a nice spicy “kick” they offered gluten free option to their burger buns and were also happy to switch out for salad.
